BIO

I am a native of Fresno and have learned to love, respect and cherish this community. As a lifelong resident of California's Central Valley, I know the leaders, agencies, churches, and school systems well. I enjoy the amazing ethnic, cultural, and religious diversity of Fresno and am committed to the ongoing work of reconciliation, education and communication between the various people groups, faith traditions, and agencies.

In 2020, I completed a second masters degree, this one in marriage and family therapy, and began working as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist at the Zimmerman Therapy Group in Clovis, CA. I was licensed in 2022, and in 2023 launched my own private practice in Fresno, CA. I specialize in helping individuals, children, adolescents, couples, and families from a psychodynamic approach with a Jungian emphasis.

Before becoming a marriage and family therapist, I was a professor at Fresno Pacific University since 1999, teaching in biblical and religious studies, and was a pastor for 15 years prior to that. I have always enjoyed interdisciplinary conversations relating to clinical psychology, theology, world religions, philosophy, arts and humanities, and social justice.

My broad interests in psychology, theology, culture, advocacy, and music converge in a book I recently authored. U2: Rock 'n' Roll to Change the World (Rowman & Littlefield) is a look at one of the biggest bands in the world, assessing the impact of the group's art, spirituality, and activism. From its beginning in 1976, U2 has consistently interacted with its environment and provided a unique case study in the intersection of artistic expression and cultural engagement.

On a personal note, I enjoy playing jazz guitar, recording ambient music, reading across multiple disciplines, and doodling with mandalas. In the warmer months, I spend as much time as I can wandering and kayaking in the Sierra Nevada.
